May Recap

Hope everyone had a great May! This past month, I wrote 32,898 words and The Acros Raiders: Down in Flames is now at 113,117 words. My goal is still 120k words, but I have a feeling I might go over a bit. Things are getting ready to wrap up, but A LOT is about to happen for the climax, and I'll let it be as many words as it needs to be.

Business highlights this month are finally getting over the 100k word milestone, submitting seven pages of my manuscript for a sample edit, having another successful sales event, and figuring out a decent marketing strategy for book 2.

Personal highlights this month include baking, swimming, and painting with my sister.

Book display for steampunk book, The Acros Raiders, with a back banner for Crow's Nest Publishing House

The event was the NPR Fourth Friday Bazaar. I met a lot of amazing people and sold 6 books. It is an evening event, but summer has arrived early in Florida, so setup was a bit rough! I'm going to take a break from outdoor events for the next three months because of summer, but I anticipate needing all of my time to focus on book 2. I'm also signing up for street teams for other authors while I get my own street team together. (If you're interested in signing up for my street team, click here!) A street team is just a team who reads one of the first drafts of a work and gives the author feedback. It's a volunteer position, but as an indie author it is a great way to connect with others and give back to the community. For readers, it's a great way to read books without having to pay!

I just got the sample edit back last night, and I'm going to look it over this morning. Hopefully by the end of the day, I'll be on their schedule for October!

Cinnamon monkey bread

This month, I did a bit of baking. I made cornbread pudding, cinnamon monkey bread (pictured to the left) and I even made a great decision to make chocolate chip cookies for breakfast this morning because I'm running out of ideas and was going to just make chocolate chip pancakes, so I went all in. I know, I'm probably gonna have a stomach ache soon. Bad way to start the day, but so far no regrets.

I amazingly didn't get too distracted this month. Steampunk Pirates didn't squeeze its way into my brain too mcuh. I wrote some notes on my pirate series, mainly for the marketing, but stayed focused on The Acros Raiders.

I'm honestly nervous to take on the publishing process again. It's always difficult to take constructive criticism on my work. I'm more worried everyone will say it needs a full rewrite!

I got my publishing checklist together and it is long! Hopefully today I get to cross off "book an editor". I'm going to be incredibly busy through the rest of the year...
